Chatham County lies in the Piedmont area of central North Carolina and is bordered by Harnett, Lee, Moore, Randolph, Alamance, Durham, Wake, and Orange counties. The manufacturing industry is one of county’s largest industries. Agriculture also plays an important part in the economy with Chatham being one of North Carolina’s leaders in agriculture.
The main east-west highway in the county is U.S. 64. US 421 and US 15-501 run north and south with 421 serving Siler City and 15-501 serving Pittsboro. The Siler City Municipal Airport is located in the western part of Chatham. The county is served by Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation Railways. Chatham Transit Network and Chapel Hill Transit serve as public transportation providers.
Jordan Lake, located in the eastern part of the county covers an area of almost 14,000 acres of water. The northernmost end of the lake reaches into southwestern Durham County.
The scenic rural environment, the uniqueness of the area, and the opportunity for growth makes Chatham County a great place to work and live. The county is fortunate to have an active arts community and to be home to the NC Arts Incubator which is located in Siler City.
